The most commonly used metal for dental implants is titanium. However, it's not as simple as choosing a titanium implant. Like granite and steel, titanium comes in different grades. Those that can be obtained commercially are pure titanium in grades I, II, III and IV.

There are three common types of dental implants you can choose from: endosteal, subperiostic, and zygomatic. Implants are also sometimes made of gold, stainless steel or cobalt-chrome.
However, these alternative metals have lower success rates and are not used as often. According to current studies, titanium is the best material for dental implants. For people who have lost teeth due to periodontal injury or disease, dental implant procedures are a good alternative. According to the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research, adults ages 20 to 64 have an average of 25 of their 32 natural teeth left.

A longer internal connection and a grade 4 titanium implant system are advantageous for static overload conditions.
